All You Have To Do Is Show Up: How To Be Consistent

You’ve heard it before that showing up is half the battle, and it’s true. The hardest part of pretty much anything is just getting started. And that’s where the key is, because if you can overcome that initial friction, then things just continue to get easier. It’s all about consistency and commitment. Here’s my biggest tips on how to be more consistent:

Power of Consistency:

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I believe it’s easier to stand out now because a lot of people don’t want to do the difficult things. You may not find immediate success in your endeavors, but don’t let that convince you that you’re not on the right track.

If you can work on something everyday, I would hope that you would progress and get better over time. You’ll slowly start to differentiate yourself from the pack by chipping away at your goals everyday.

Even if you’re just showing up and going through the motions, that’s better than nothing. Success is usually the result of a long string of small wins, so start building that foundation.

How To Find Time In Your Day:

If you’re struggling to stay consistent, then there’s two really helpful tips I can share (both are incredibly simple):

  1. Cut out distractions
  2. Schedule time for your tasks

1. Cut Out Distractions:

The easiest source of distraction for most to cut out would be social media. I deleted social media off my phone and found so much extra time in my day. If you need some convincing, you can check out the benefits I experienced here.

Or if you want some other easy tips on how to reduce your daily screen time, you can check out my other post here.

Playing video games, watching adult videos, and binging tv/movies are also common time wasters that aren’t necessities. I’m all about having your (harmless) vices to relax and decompress sometimes, but you need to be able to do them in moderation.

It’ll be uncomfortable cutting these distractions out, but you’ll live. Honestly, you’ll feel a much greater sense of personal satisfaction when you ignore your impulses and force yourself to work on more meaningful projects.

2. Schedule Time For Your Tasks:

Once you’ve freed up your time, now you need to make sure you capitalize on it. We all have a million things to do with our day, so it’s easy to fill that time with something else.

If you average two hours each day on Instagram/Tik Tok, then you know you have two hours everyday you can dedicate to something else. Schedule time when you know you have a low likelihood of getting distracted by absolutely anything else.

Set the time and stick to it. It’s going to be easy to convince yourself that you’re too tired or that you’ll do it later, but you’ve scheduled that time for a reason. If you’re able to, even waking up earlier or going to bed later is also a good way to carve out time.

If you’re concerned about burning out, then schedule time in your day for relaxation and decompression too. The idea is to make your day more regimented, so as long as you get what you need done in the day, then you should be relaxing and taking time for yourself too.

Conclusion

Don’t overcomplicate the things you’re pursuing. The little details aren’t always the most important, I truly believe it’s more about showing up day after day. Big success usually doesn’t come quick, so focus on getting started, and let results compound as a result of your daily dedication.

Find a way to make time in your day and stay consistent with showing up. You’ll slowly start to see the fruits of your labor, and eventually you’ll find yourself way beyond the average person in whatever your pursuits are.

Cutting out distractions and scheduling your days are very simple, but that also means that they’re very easy to NOT do too; make sure you give a genuine effort at these two things and I’m sure you’ll start to see changes over time.
